An eligible individual must go to http://www.autodesk.com/education/student-software and register to get an account. Once properly registered, a confirmation email is sent to the email address supplied during registration. Review any instructions that may be included in the email message. Access to the Autodesk Education Community portal can then be accomplished by returning to the site and logging in (rather than joining and registering for an account).

Autodesk has changed their process to a single, sign-on method. If you already have Autodesk accounts, use only the credentials for the account you used to register and activate your software.
- You MUST DOWNLOAD THE CORRECT VERSION of software. Earlier versions cannot necessarily use files made from later versions; but later versions can use files made from earlier versions. ALSO, you should download the bit-version that matches your operating system. For example, if you are using a computer with Windows 7 Home Premium 64, then you should download the 64-bit version of the software. The 64-bit version WILL NOT INSTALL on a computer with a Windows 32-bit operating system.; and a computer with a 64-bit Windows operating sytem might have trouble installing and running the 32-bit software, even in compatibility mode.
- Mac Users take Note: In general, Autodesk products WORK ONLY WITH WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEMS. Mac Users have to install a Windows operating system on their computer in order to use Autodesk products. This requires what is called a dual-boot configuration, or, requires a virtualization software package which allows a Windows operating system to be installed with Mac OS.
