MAC Painterly Pro Longwear Paint Pot Review and Swatches
By Contributor: Ranita
Natural Beauty is the best kind of beauty. The essence of natural make up is to make you look like yourself, only more polished. A must have product for this effect is the MAC Pro-Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly which I will review and swatch today. The MAC Paint pots are thick cream eye shadows that are packages in cute glass pots with black plastic screw-on caps. The packaging has weight and feels like it is good quality. I have actually dropped some of my paint pots from quite a height (#typical klutzy Ranita!!). While the glass pot has a small crack, the product is intact and the pot is still going strong!
Painterly has a very thick formulation. It has a blushing Nude colour – pale brown, almost beige, with a tinge of pink. It has a very matte finish – not even a hint of shine. It feels creamy when rubbed onto the skin, not grainy or chalky at all, and it spreads evenly. But while being applied, it very quickly dries and sticks in place. Once it is set, nothing can make it budge.
I love the colour of this paint pot. The colour complements almost every skin tone beautifully. It just seems very natural and polished. My favourite way to wear this product as an eye-shadow is with a satin finish brown or taupe in the crease. There is no creasing or caking at all.
Putting items into attic storage containers is a good way of making sure they are preserved for a long time, without having to take them to a storage unit. On the downside, some attic storage containers can allow certain items, such as books, clothes, and shoes, to become damaged over time. Likewise, insects and even larger animals, such as mice, can force the lid open and damage your goods. Storing paint has some limitations. Latex or water-based paints can normally be stored for about two-three years in an airtight container. You can use either PET or HDPE plastic bottles to store water-based paint. Our small paint pots are ideal for little jobs. Here's a List of Tips for Paint Storage. Add about 5 marbles into the paint as it.
This product works brilliantly as an eye-shadow base. Any colour applied with painterly as a base appears much brighter and stays much longer. If it is smudged close to the upper and lower lash line, it works as a great base for kohls and eyeliners. Kajals that normally would smudge like crazy on me, manage to stay defined and dark on me all day.
The best way to work with this paint pot is to use your finger. Swirl your finger a couple of times in the pot and pat it onto your eye-lid. Also great is a brush with synthetic hair. I recommend the MAC 242. Very little of this product is enough to apply a pigmented layer over both eye lids, so one pot will last a really long time. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of dipping your finger into the paint pot, you could scape out a thin layer using a small spoon or thin blade.
One thing to note is that this is a very dry sort of formula. Once on the skin, it has to be blended in immediately and one needs to be very quick while working with this product. It is excellent for oily eyelids, because on application it becomes very matte and dry. But if you are like me and have super dry eyelids; this product can only be applied on top of some eye cream or moisturizer. Otherwise it is extremely difficult to use. Also if using a brush, a lot of the product clings to the brush and it has to be cleaned thoroughly after each use.

How Painterly looks on my eyes
PROS of MAC Painterly Paint Pot:
- Lovely colour. Works well with most skin tones.
- Intense pigmentation. Little bit of the product goes a long way.
- Great eye-shadow base. Slippery kajal stay put. Eye shadow colours appear brighter.
- Brilliant for people with oily eyelids. Gives a very matte finish.
- Extremely long lasting. Will only come off when makeup remover is used.
CONS of MAC Painterly Paint Pot:
- Very very dry formula. If you have dry lids – using this will not be easy.
- Dries and sets in place very quickly. Very little time to work with the product.
- A little difficult to use: dipping in the ring finger is not very hygienic and no scoop or scrapper has been provided. If a brush is used, a lot of product is left over on it.
Price: Rs. 1450
VNA Rating: 4/5
Dupe: Maybelline Color Tattoo Nude Pink
Conclusion: MAC Painterly Paint Pot is pale beige toned eyeshadow which works as a great eye primer. Any makeup applied on it including kohls don’t budge all day. It has a matte finish and dries very quickly so you need to be quick in blending. For what it does, its totally worth it.

If you are a homeowner and tackle DIY and home improvement projects, then I am pretty sure you have a few cans of paint hanging around in your basement or garage that are leftover from previous projects.
I probably have more than most people since I write about paint for a living and save all the leftovers to use for touch-ups. Plus, when I need only a small amount for a project having a stash on hand saves time. I have even been known to make my own paint colors by mixing leftovers together, creating a truly custom color.
As you can see, it was time for a major cleanout of the old paint to see how many of the cans still had usable paint in them and to implement a system to label and organize what is left. I took every paint can to the basement work bench and got to work.
What I needed:
- Wide Mouth Quart Ball Canning Jars
- Wide Mouth Pint Ball Canning Jars
- 2”-3' round labels (I used Avery labels from an office supply store) Paint can opener
- Paint stirrers
- Rags and a bucket of water to clean paint sticks as I moved from can to can
- A bag of Cat litter
Wide mouth canning jarsare perfect to hold leftover paint since the lids seal tight. Another reason I like using them is you can see the paint color at a glance. When storing paint in glass, it is best to keep it in a dark area, as light can alter the color. A dark basement or closet is perfect.
I lined up the jars on the worktable and opened one can of paint at a time. I used a paint stick to stir the very paint well. Make sure you stir until the paint is mixed thoroughly and then pour it into the canning jar and seal the lid tight.
I cleaned the paint stick with a wet rag and then repeated the process for each can of paint I had.
To label the paint, I wrote the details on a round sticker, including:
- Brand of paint
- Color
- Type
- Sheen/Finish
- Room/Furniture
In the end I had quite a few cans of paint that were not worth keeping - they were too old and not even useable to giveaway. To safely dispose of them, I placed cat litter in the cans and let them dry out before bagging them up to throw away.
How to Dispose of Latex Paint
Add equal parts cat litter to latex paint in the can (one part paint to one part cat litter) Stir the cat litter into the paint until it has an oatmeal-like consistency that will not spill out. Allow the paint and cat litter mixture to sit for one hour.
How to Dispose of Oil-Based Paint
Open the can and let it dry out. To speed up the process, add clay based cat litter or paper scraps.
Now when I need some paint, I can go down to my basement and easily see what colors I have at a glance!
I kept the good gallon sized paint cans and placed them along the bottom of the shelving unit. I had a few extra canning jars and placed them on the shelves so that when I have leftover paint in the future, I will put it right into the jar to keep my paint storage area organized and under control.
